I've tried CD/DVD Speedtools with no effect.

At this point, MOST data CD-Rs mount & read fine. I do get the occasional
data CD-R that exhibits the same problem, perhaps related to a separate
cause (like being burned from a 68K machine or OS7.X? Don't know).

HOWEVER: With Audio CD-Rs, it appears to be a brand-related issue. From my
exhaustive (well, 10-12 disks) testing, here's what I've determined: "Good"
brands that read audio CD-R OK: "Imation"; "Kensiko"; "Kensington"; and "PNY
Technologies". "Bad" brands where the system freezes (except for mouse
movement) until pressing the eject button on the CD-ROM drive: "Memorex";
"Maxell"; and "Staples" brands.

All of the CD-R's are the 700MB size except for the Maxell's which are the
650MB type. I haven't tried these "bad" CDs on my other Macs, but I will.
I recently purchased some Sony 700MB, so I will test with them.

Anyone else have a similar experience?
