I have a PM8600 (300mhz 604) running OS 9.2.2, 480MB ram, Seagate 9.1 SCSI internal drive, Belkin USB card, Radeon 7000 video card, and a Mitsubishi internal CD-R. Next on the list is a processor upgrade card.
I'm not sure whether I want to go with a G3-500 or the G4-800. I hesitate to say that "money is no object" but it probably won't be the main factor in my decision, either. I'm more interested in reliability and compatibility. OS X is not a factor for me. I can find no compelling reason for me to go to OS X in the near future and, when I finally do make the transition, I'll buy a machine that runs it natively. What I'm trying to do right now is make a fast, reliable, machine that will run OS 9 for a couple of more years until I get dragged, kicking and screaming, to OS X. FWIW, I use Photoshop quite a bit to do photo restorations and I also do a fair amount of audio editing. I'd love to hear any observations on a G3-500 or G4-800 in a Mach V 8600. Pros? Cons? thanks, John -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
