We've got both Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs (as well as UNM) providing
a steady source of Macs.

Also, LLNL (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) and ORNL (Oak Ridge
National Laboratory).

LLNL, the hydrogen bomb folks (which is distinct from LANL ... Los Alamos
National Laboratory ... the atomic bomb folks, although both are operated by
the University of California ... my parents' and my brother's alma mater),
sells many Macs at auction.

These are generally priced so low that they can be sold for a profit at
retail for about:

$50 for a G3/266 DT,

$60 for a 9600/200 or 9600/233,

$100 for a 9600/200 MP, 9600/300 or 9600/350, and

$100 for a G3/300 MT or G3/333 MT.

I've bought several of the above, at those prices, with the exception of a
9600/233.

Incredibly enough, the G3/266 DTs I bought were Rev. 3/C. The G3/333 MT I
bought had a SCSI Zip because it was originally an UW-SCSI machine.

None of the former national laboratories' machines are likely to include
*any* memory of *any* kind, most particularly not magnetic memory.

And, incredibly enough, not ROM memory, either, on occasion. The data
security folks at those labs are tough cookies, and often dictate deletion of
even the trays on which the media devices are mounted.

Hey, for $60 for a 9600/200, which is eminently expandible to a 500 MHz G3,
what does one expect, anyway.

FWIW, ORNL is a very good source of high quality machinery. Example: a
Monarch 10EE toolroom lathe for in the $1000-$2000 range (replacement cost,
about $100,000).
