Sorry for chiming in so late.
A few weeks ago I had to replace the Finder too (I rum 9.0 on my
PowerMac7500) after a hard crash. Every time I started up the Mac
crashed with a message abut some time-related extension.
So I got the CD on which I have burned a copy of the working system and
replaced the Finder. Problem solved.
Moral: once you have a working system, burn a copy of it!

I know Jan, you are right, I goofed and am remiss in copying a good
backup. I won't make that particular mistake again [but I know I will make
 many others ...tee-hee ].

If someone has a GOOD copy of Finder OS 8.6 and wanted to compress
it and send it to a sister Mac-kee, I'd be very greatful.

Thanks,
Gail
