Do note that a lot of cable internet systems authenticate by MAC address as well. This MAC address isn't related to Macintosh, but every Ethernet card has a unique ID number associated with it that's used for lower level routing and such. A lot of cable internet connections are keyed to only allow one computer with that MAC address to connect. This is why many routers allow you to set their MAC Address. Make it the same as the MAC of the computer that's keyed for it, and it works. I had to do this to make my dad's cable internet work with the router I gave him.
