Tom:

Check your Sound input setting in your Sound (or Monitors and Sound) Control
Panel, and make sure it's set to "CD".  If it still doesn't work, the analog
cable which connects the CD to the motherboard may have come off. (Unless
you're running software that supports digital playback).
