     You can try unplugging it and reconnecting with a different id, or 
try HD SpeedTools or Atto Express Tools (free), or if there are jumpers 
on the drive get the manuf jumper settings spec and check them - it may 
be write protected with a jumper or not spinning up - try the mount all 
discs command.
     Failing the above the drive could be damaged - I had a Cheetah which 
would not format as it was 'busy' - 'dead' was another word for it.
