Glen, thank you. That is helpful. I think the card should work.
I've just got to find which detail is causing the problem. At this
point I'm thinking it's either:

1) incompatibility with G4/800
2) incompatibility with SoftRAID
3) incompatibility with LVD mode
4) cable and/or terminator issue
5) bizarre unexpected problem

Your info can help me eliminate #3. Do you have evidence that you
are operating in LVD mode? Have you benchmarked your drives and
seen peak reads or writes above 40 MB/s? ExpressPro-Tools from Atto
is handy for this. There's a benchmark option under the Utilities
menu which measures peak and sustained transfer rates for your
drives. Are you using the LVD (twisted pair) 68 wire cable and
terminator? If so, do you know what brand you are using?

I'm using SoftRAID 2.2 to format my drives. I did some more testing
last night and when I put the UL2D in a different S900 with a G3 CPU
and a single ended drive connected, it works fine. Hence, I should
try switching out the G4/800 and also look to my cabling after all,
despite the 2940U2B working.
