I have had similar probs w/my 7300/180. It happens coming out of sleep
quite regularly so I don't use sleep mode, only screen energy saving
mode. It also results after using Microsoft programs: Word, Internet
Explorer and Outlook Express. I'm using 8.6 now and have just
installed a NewerTech G4/350 card, upgrading from a NewerTech G3/300.
The machine is surprisingly fast and very stable until I invoke or exit
the above programs. I have also noticed quitting the MS programs
fragments the RAM. The RAM used by them appears to continue to be in
use even after the progams quit. My work around has been to leave them
running once I open them up, until I shut down or restart. I will
receive a 3.2gig HD w/OS 9.1 by week's end and I'll see if it's more
stable. Then it's on to 9.2 and OS 10.2. I'm really looking forward
to using Safari and Mail on that machine to see if the freezes
disappear.
