URGENT HD Problem HELP!
I have a 4 G hd that I have partitioned into 4 - 1 G partitions. All has been working just fine, except last night, when I went to start up the 6500. Partition 1 was the loaded system and all went as expected, then the following 3 partitions would normally show as the start up completed. Here is the problem: after the first partition showed up the hd continued to make a grunt, grunt, pause, grunt, grunt, pause and so on and the load failed the the computer froze. This repeated 4 or five times and I loaded a CD which did the same thing after the first partition loaded ok. Since this hd is in the portable SCSI enclosure, I can shut the power off and so I did just that, the load completed from the CD and I went to DISK SET UP. All looked normal and so I applied power to the external hd. I than proceeded to MOUNT each of the 4 partitions. Partition 3 did the grunt, grunt, pause, grunt, grunt thing and the system froze. Reloaded and confirmed that the problem was in the partition 3 only. Their was enough collective room on the three good partitions to copy the files from partition 3 to them. This was done on about the 5th attempt, when partition 3 finally did mount. HOWEVER, I found that three folders would not allow copies and caused the grunt, grunt and so on. I opened each of the folders and managed to copy the files, but could not trash the folders. I wanted to learn what was the problem, so I loaded Hard Disk Tool kit. In it was an option to DELETE VOLUME. I did this and the entire 1 G is GONE! Any ideas? hot shot Bill /*>#@< ===== Computer: Mac Power PC 6500 @ 300 Mh Mac O S: 8.5.1 System: 64Mb w/v9 RAM Doubler = 192 Mb Disks: 2Mb, F, Zip, and CD Programs: (see above), memory alocation (see above). __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
