Well, perhaps not so freely available as they were a couple of years
ago as we are talking old tech now (with old support and dwindling
manufacture) and the general move in the industry is toward lower power
consumption - the faster the refresh rate the higher the power
consumption and 8k refresh is now available for recent pc systems though
whether macs will use them I have no idea.
And most Apple memory controllers can handle 1k,2k and 4k refresh
without a problem so removing the need for the more expensive modules
though there are a few models (7xx series?) which will only work with 2k
refresh.
OWC definitely had 128MB 2k fpm/edo dimms for sale at well over $100
compared to the cheaper 128 4k (2 banks 64 2k). They are still listed for
sale in odd places but whether they are actually 2k or 2x64 2k is a
puzzler - but I'd hate to buy eight 128 modules from Micron for $3192 to
find that they are the same as the OWC or SMS chips for $160 or less.
Do you think no manufacturer ever made a 2k 128MB dimm? I find that
hard to believe but if I'm wrong I'll bite the bullet.
Pete
