This or something similar happened to me....and it was because the StartUp
Disk selected in the Control panel was "Network"

I have no idea why.

It tried to start up off the non-existant network and then defaulted to my
normal startup disk eventually.

Once I selected my real disk and restarted it was a lot faster.
