Check to make sure you've not just changed your default Netscape Profile. Look in System> Preferences>Netscape Users and see how many folders are there...if you see an older one see if it contains your stuff (double click o the bookmarks.html file and see if they're your missing bookmarks) Other than that, 'I tried various things' is utterly *un*informative.
