Just an FYI really.  You may have heard that the jaguar full install and 
update cds are identical except for an extra file on the update cd called 
'check for osx.1' or something like that.  It has been rumoured that if yuo 
were to purchase the update and 'backup' the installer removing the file that 
it would work as a full install.

This DOES work!  I've not done it personally but I ama ware of a close friend 
who HAS done it and made it work.  If you need further info do a goolgle 
search, at least one page with instruceions has gone after a request by apple 
but the page is still cached in googles' servers.
