Yes I realized that but in a fit of panic I thought perhaps I had 
mistakenly joined and started talking about one that was not.

Well, it's beginning to look like that or a bad CDROM or Floppy drive, 
but both HDs are probably good.

OH yes, it's been in and out many times, on many other machines.

At this point there are no specs since there is a new HD in there but no 
system. No system on the old one either and none will go in, same deal. 
The both check out perfect with TTPro and both are easily init'd .
It has plenty enough ram (128).

Could it be the ram he bought at a used RAM store? This is making me 
nuts. The machine is like spanking new....it belongs to a young doctor 
and I'm trying to rescue it for his kids.
I already bought him an iMac Indigo with which he is pleased and that one 
upgraded swimmingly. I erased it and did the whole shebang on it.
