I believe that recent ATI video cards (some? most? all?) have the
necessaries to play DVD; I've read before that since ATI was Apple's defacto
standard for video that they were the only ones privy to the necessary info
to allow DVD playback on Apples. That was perhaps a couple of years ago
when I read that, so the story may have changed if you're talking about
newer G4s.

Insofar as PCI Macs, I believe that the ATI cards are your best, if not
only, hope for DVD playback.

I just received a new ATI 7000 card today for my 9500, and it seems to me
that somewhere on the control panel it said something about DVD. However, I
don't have a DVD drive so I didn't pay any attention to it. BTW, the specs
say that it requires OS 9 or X, and I haven't been able to get it to work
sucessfully for me with 8.6 so, damnit, it looks like I have no choice but
to upgrade the OS soon (my old video cards don't work well with the G4).
This Sonnet G4 upgrade is getting more and more complicated for me all the
time.
