Does the Sonnet Tempo (Acard) ATA66 support newer IDE drives? I ask because
I've been having trouble with this card and a new Maxtor 30GB ATA133 hard
drive in a 9600/g4/450. It works fine otherwise but nearly every time I turn
on the computer there is directory corruption. This drive isn't on the list
of supported drives at Acard's site, but I've read elsewhere that just about
any IDE drive should work fine with the card.

Initialize your drive using Drive Setup (with or without optional "zero all
sectors") then use the DS test function to ensure all sectors test good.
Those that aren't will be reassigned to spares.

Actually, intermittent problems are not that uncommon, but these apparent
defects usually disappear after several passes of Norton or another
comprehensive drive analysis and repair tool.
