If memory serves, one key difference between a switch and router is that if you have a switch and want multiple computers to access the internet simultaneously, you have to pay your ISP for additional IP addresses. The router creates sub IPs and so it effectively "splits" the one IP into as many as you need. Hope we haven't already said that before.
