This is caused by one or more "cold solder" connections which are not caught by the Quality Control people if the boards are even checked at all. If looking at the motherboard in the vicinity of the "gun" circuitry, look for connections with cracks or a frosted appearance. They need to be touched with a 40W anti-static soldering iron.
