On the 8600/9600 this outlet is rated at 3 amps. 3 amps is probably sufficient for a monitor and most any peripherals except bigger stereos and most laser printers. You need to check the specs for your Mac and the power requirements for your peripherals. Music CDs are played digitally on most of the newer Mac hardware and software, so the CD sound cable that is routed to the motherboard is really pretty useless and can be routed to another use without creating any problems I am aware of. In my case I routed the CD sound cable to the PCI DOS card I have installed, and the CD burner I have installed has no CD sound cable and yet both devices play music CDs without any problem. Also all the CD ROMs I have seen have a headphone port and volume control on their front panel hidden behind the bezel. These are both operational and can be routed to another place if desired. Since the Mac is actually reading the data file on the CD and doing its own decoding there may be problems in using the more common Mac CD playing applications to control the analog sound signal coming from the CD sound cable. bill bill -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
