Yes the 9600 uses 5V FPM or EDO DIMMs, no it is not special memory, it just predates SDRAM. > >Next, is just about any PCI card normally used for a PC compatible >with these machines, providing there are drivers available to >support it? Yes, as long as their is a driver. Video cards and disk interface (IDE, SCSI) need the driver in ROM as the functions provided by these cards are required at boot. Typically this requires the cards be specific to Macs. USB cards that are, IIRC, OHCI compliant SHOULD work using the Apple supplied USB drivers. 10/100 network cards and WiFi PC Cards with PCI adapters will work if there is a driver. I don't know about OSX. > >Also, I was planning on getting a G4 upgrade for it, either a Sonnet >700 or 800mhz. Any known issues with these? Do they perform well in >the 9600? Yes (I have 350 and 400MHz upgrades in a 7500 and 8500). The bus is still limited to 50MHz so you still won't have the equivalent of later machines. Be advised that there are two basic versions of the 9600. The Mach-5 and, well, non-Mach-5. I think they can both take G3/4 upgrades equally but it's best to check. -- Clark Martin Redwood City, CA, USA Macintosh / Internet Consulting "I'm a designated driver on the Information Super Highway" -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
