I have a 7300 with a dead ethernet.  (Actually, it works but 
only for a minute, then it dies down, then 5-10 minutes later it 
comes up again.  I've heard of others with this problem.  I think its 
just an old chip).  Also, I want faster ethernet so I can use the 
7300 for backup, etc.   I am using OS 9.1.
I have several Ethernet NICs that don't work.  One is an "asound" 
card.  It uses a driver from Virtual Information Systems.   When I 
install the driver, and then turn the TCPIP and the Appletalk to the 
card the thing works great and really flies.   But, when I reboot, 
the system freezes on reboot.   I did a clean install 3 times.  It 
still won't boot up with the drivers installed.
        Does anyone know if this a realtek chip set?  Can I use a 
Realtek or MacAlly driver (as I heard someone say).
        I also have a  Linksys 10/100  card that came on a used G3. 
It worked great when I first got the G3, but the G3 had a bunch of 
Novell stuff in the OS 8* extensions folder.   After a clean install 
of OS 9.2  I have transferred various extensions from the old system 
folder, but no combination of them seem to work.  The drivers I 
downloaded from the linksys site are in .exe files so I haven't been 
able to open them  (although they SAY they work with Linux and "most 
operating systems").
         In the old days I always had good luck with Asante, but 
lately I have had some problems with their stuff and its pricey 
(although their 4-port router is fantastic).  So  Any Ideas?  Can I 
get a Netgear NIC to work?  (Macwarehouse offers them but netgear 
says no).   Do I pony up the monster bucks for an Asante NIC?
