I have a 7300 with a dead ethernet. (Actually, it works but
only for a minute, then it dies down, then 5-10 minutes later it
comes up again. I've heard of others with this problem. I think its
just an old chip). Also, I want faster ethernet so I can use the
7300 for backup, etc. I am using OS 9.1.
I have several Ethernet NICs that don't work. One is an "asound"
card. It uses a driver from Virtual Information Systems. When I
install the driver, and then turn the TCPIP and the Appletalk to the
card the thing works great and really flies. But, when I reboot,
the system freezes on reboot. I did a clean install 3 times. It
still won't boot up with the drivers installed.
Does anyone know if this a realtek chip set? Can I use a
Realtek or MacAlly driver (as I heard someone say).
I also have a Linksys 10/100 card that came on a used G3.
It worked great when I first got the G3, but the G3 had a bunch of
Novell stuff in the OS 8* extensions folder. After a clean install
of OS 9.2 I have transferred various extensions from the old system
folder, but no combination of them seem to work. The drivers I
downloaded from the linksys site are in .exe files so I haven't been
able to open them (although they SAY they work with Linux and "most
operating systems").
In the old days I always had good luck with Asante, but
lately I have had some problems with their stuff and its pricey
(although their 4-port router is fantastic). So Any Ideas? Can I
get a Netgear NIC to work? (Macwarehouse offers them but netgear
says no). Do I pony up the monster bucks for an Asante NIC?
