VPC4 will work on an upgraded system -- I ran it just fine on a 7300+G3/500
in OS 9.1. Connectix just doesn't *support* it -- but it works fine. They're
just trying to scare you.

I have VPC4 with PC-DOS 2000 sitting around. Contact me off-list if
interested.
