As Clark said, if you are connecting to your ISP with
no trouble but you can't surf. (I am assuming you can
use your mail client to send and recieve mail fine.) 
THen your problem must be with the DNS entries.
(Domain Name Server)  A bad DNS entry would cause
exactly what you describe.  Sounds like your ISPs tech
is probably just frieked out because your using a Mac
and is afraid he can't support it without putting any
rational thought behind it...

Haha... I was speechless at that for awhile.  CHarlie,
most likely you were having DNS issues as well.  When
you switched Drives and reinstalled everything, it
likley straightened itself out.  What kind of hard
drive you have in your machine is not going to
regulate whether you can surf or not...  Not picking
on you, just thought I should clarify ;-)
