I have zero experience with networking, and I'm trying to connect the PM4400 to an eMac. The eMac came with what I believe is an Ethernet cable. It looks like a phone cable with slightly wider terminals. It fits nicely into the back of the PM4400, but plugging it into the eMac requires more force than I think it should. I'm plugging into the port on the eMac with the <...> label. Swapping the cable end for end doesn't help.
I did a custom install of OS 8 on the PM4400, but I'm not sure which components need to be installed. There wasn't anything called "networking" but I did install AppleTalk. When I open the AppleTalk control panel and pick "Ethernet" from the "Connect via" menu, I get an error message telling me to check my network connections. I've followed the networking and file sharing directions in OS 8 Help but there are a couple of places where I get stuck. I need to take better notes next time. I'm confused and flailing and I don't expect anyone to be able to help me with the limited information I've given here, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone here can suggest something I might be missing.
