(We are moving over to this list because we "left the topic" on the Quadlist.)

Referring to Re: Performa 636CD and StyleWriter II, at 21:48 -0800, 3/7/03, (E McCann) eloquently elucidated:

 1. Driver shows in the chooser? (Actually, it must, since IIRC you told it
 which port to use.)

Yes, but the chooser freezes when I selct it, then click on printer port (right-side window)

2. Do you have a different serial cable to test it with?

Yes, I've been trying it with an appletalk/local talk connection as well

3. Can you try it on the *other* port?

Oddly enough, the back of my 8500 says the printer port is on the inside, but the pdf of the manual says it is on the outside.

So, yes, I've switched back and forth, without benefit or result.

Then in a slightly later e-mail and still referring to Re: Stylewriter vs 8500 (was Performa 636CD and StyleWriter, at 13:18 -0800, 3/8/03, (E McCann) eloquently elucidated:

Even though you don't have another *printer,* select another driver. just curious to see if other drivers produce the same action... If not, you may just want to delete and reinstall the driver file.

Actually I do. I have a Laserwriter Select and a HP 870cse as well. The only one which works is the LaserWriter, which is networked through my 6100 (to get back on-topic, at least once removed, for the time being).

Where would I best get a "new" driver file for the Stylewriter?

I do have an OS 9.2 CD, a 8.5 CD and an 8.0 CD.

And since we are getting kinda OT, maybe we oughta go off-list or over to the PCI PowerMacs List?
