-- Good day. My experience with the G4/700 upgrade suggests that it is faster than a G3/400 Lombard and a G3/400 newertech upgraded 6500.
One factor which really kicked it into gear was the use of an ultratek ATI 66 IDE card with 7200 rpm drives. I think this compensates somewhat for the slower bus speed of the 8600 compared to the Lombard. Also, altivec (spelling?) enhanced apps run much faster- Photoshop, for instance.
