This will stop happening if you buy a cheap hub and ditch the crossover
cable. Appletalk isn't seeing the ethernet connected to anything so it
switches to localtalk.

>But at the OFFICE, when the 7600 is started, it starts up w/ AppleTalk via

The network at the office probably has a hub or switch in it somewhere,
that or you've got multiple e'net cards in the 7600. I'm sorry, I don't
know what an etherwave is.

Assuming an Etherwave is a 10baseT switch or hub, the 7600 should be able
to stay with ethernet even if there is nothing else connected to the
Etherwave. At least it works that way with my hub (Netgear EN104). Of
course, I've never tried it with just a laptop hooked to it. I have tried
it with nothing hooked to it. But I don't have a 7600 either. It works
with a G4 (there is no Localtalk (serial) though), a Biege G3, and an
SE/30.

Here's another thought. It doesn't work with my Q605. Everytime I start
it up it goes back to serial networking, because the PRAM battery is
dead. (I've got a brand new one sitting right on top it, apparantly just
buying a new battery doesn't fix anything, it actually has to be
installed :) )

Do both 7600's have the same ethernet card (or mobo ethernet)? Do they
both have the same OS, networking software (same version of Appleshare
etc.), same networking extensions, etc.?

Hope some of this helps,
