Hello to the list... I'm VERY new to the list (just subscribed last night), as well as VERY new to Macs. I just got a wonderful Power Mac 7300/200 from a friend two days ago, and I just got my Mac IIfx that I bought for 50 cents running. I have an extensive PC network in my home, running TCP/IP on 10/100 BaseT TP Ethernet. The PC machines are mixed, with 1 Win95 laptop, 2 Win98SE desktops, and 2 Win2000Pro desktops. All get their Internet connection via a cable modem, which is connected to one of the Win2000Pro machines via Internet Connection Sharing. I have Internet working fine on all machines, Win and Mac. What I'd like to do, however, is share files.
I'd like to be able to get files from the PCs to the Macs (and vice versa) as easily as I do PC to PC. No FTP servers running (and no forgetting to put the one file I need on the FTP server) is my requirement. I have heard about PCMacLAN and DAVE, but they are $200 and $150, respectively. I cannot afford that, and few home users can. I will not spend $200 on software for machines that combined are worth less than that. Does ANYONE know of any no or low cost PC to Mac networking solutions, or have any ideas on how to do this? I have heard something about Win2000 Server having Mac networking solutions, but I have the Pro version. I did notice that my Pro version has an AppleTalk network driver, but I can't get it to work at all. I have even thought about either using a Linux server as a go-between, or waiting until I can afford a G3 upgrade and installing OS X to see if that will connect better, but that is still not solution for the IIfx. Any and all assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated. MTB -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
