No, I think the money spent on a box running OSX and the os itself 
aren't worth the cost to make a file server. If your talking $us then 
its twice what a linus box to do the whole shabang would cost on a linux 
box.

Dont know about XP but have you tried:

Boot from floppy, no cd support.
get to C prompt.
cd Windows\command
scanreg.exe /restore
Choose a previous date and pray.
======================
To restore corrupted reg files, you get a choice of which backup to use.
