The reason we use DHCP is that we are sharing a DHCP cable connection...but our router allows us to assign a static IP per computer via the built-in DHCP router in it...kinda like NAT or Proxy Services, just without an additional computer. Also, our router is on the 220v leg of the house current, and it never dies.
