I have a PPC 7600/180, sys 8.6.
A week or so ago I started having problems connecting to my ISP after a
restart--I got a message saying the modem was not responding. The modem was
a supra-express 33.3K--geoport-type modem. A shut-down and restart would
remove the problem.

I got a USR sportster, 56K, modem from a friend. I got the error message the
modem was not responding, etc.. It would not connect. I replaced it with the
old supra. It would not connect either, even with the settings reset. I
tried swapping ports. Nothing happened. I put on an old GV modem (14.4).
Nothing. I shut the machine down. I went to my partners quadra, put the
geoport/supra on it and connected. I came back in and started the ppc,
turned on the GV modem and connected. I shut down and restarted with the
USR. Nothing. I put the supra back on: nothing. Shut down, went back to the
quadra and got my mail.

I've reinstalled the system software (clean reinstall) and nothing. Except
now the printer won't print. The message is it isn't responding. Yes, been
to the chooser. However, after waiting a few hours, the GV is again working.

Do I have a hardware problem? Is my software suspect? If I could afford it
I'd go by a reconditioned iMac...

I'm not quite at the end of my cyber-rope, but my patience is getting kinda
thin. Thanks for any help you can give me.
