The problems are on a *PCI* Mac -- an 8500, with a G3 300, 128 MB, with 
very slow, very full hard drives.

I also have a B&W, with G4 550, 1GB, a Radeon 7000 PCI, and 10.2.3 
that, like yours, has no problems with QT.
