About refilling, it is not so easy these days. There are tricks built in about pressure and diaphrams. But there are ways, I have seen kits that provide instructions on how to handle the pressure problems. And there are people who I used to post the empties to who would do it for me for a fee (1/2 price of new). The 5162A is the one I used a lot till I got fed up of the business and got a laser printer. Each of my 3 deskwriters (a C, a 540, a 520) refused like wilful children playing copycat to print numbers of pages, the feed seemed to be defective and I had to almost always be there to press buttons on the printer to force each page to print. I strengthened springs under the tray, sanded any glaze off the "grip" pad on it and fiddled and faddled to little avail. Began to think it might be a system/driver thing. Yes, I remember 6.0.4, I used it with OS 8.6. For years I perservered. When I used my SE30 years ago, the printer performed well (but then the printer was newer!).
Is there anyone out there who runs 8.6 and has one of the above printers who can truly say they print well and reliably (the quality is not at issue, it is what it is). They can go away and print 10 to 50 pages no problem. > Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2003 13:21:15 -0500 > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: Need Deskwriter help /PPC 7200 > In-reply-to: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Message-id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > At 07:52 AM +0100 03/24/2003, k wrote: >> >> the ink is so expensive i put it in the attic, > > The DeskWriter, being such an old printer, has a great advantage in > this "modern" age...
