I have lost two 28k Global Village modems to lightning. The only way I knew
was that one day it worked, the next day it did not. The light came on and
flickered, but it would not log on at all. IMHO, unplug the phone line from
the modem and the power line of the modem between uses. (BTW, it is the phone
line which let the damaging current in.) disconnecting power and phone line
has spared my current GV Platinum for more thwn 4 years, so I am sure of
this. Good luck! Tom
