I have a 9600/233 running 8.6. Am getting a new powerbook.

Apple says I just need a regular ethernet cable (not a crossover with
the new powerbooks) to connect the two computers to transfer/share
files. I also know that I can use a router (or hub if I get a second
IP number) to share my DSL connection.

Main question is what setup should I have to share my printers? Where
should they be plugged in? I have two non-network printers, an HP
DeskJet 940C and an HP LaserJet 1200. I also asked Apple about
airport, but they said that if I got that and plugged my printers
into it, my 9600 would not be able to access the printers. It's more
important for me to have the printers connected to the 9600 (that is,
until I see how much I love the powerbook and start using it as my
main computer). Should I just keep them connected as is and, when I
want to print something from the powerbook, just transfer the file to
the 9600 and print?

I don't suppose there is any way for the powerbook to access my SCSI
scanner (Epson 800), is there? I don't mean by getting an adapter and
plugging it into the powerbook, I mean as a shared device. I'm pretty
sure I know the answer to this is no, but thought I'd throw it in
there anyway.

Same question as above (and probably same answer without need for
adapter) for my USB Wacom tablet. I do currently have a Belkin USB
powered hub attached to my 9600.

So, what's the best way to set up my new little mini-LAN? I want to
be ready for the arrival of the new computer. I'll have enough to do
once it's here and I have to make the switch to X. By the way, that
brings up one more question. Would I be fine for file/print sharing,
etc. by staying with 8.6 on the 9600 or do I have to go up to 9.x?
I'm very comfortable with 8.6, find it stable, and have spent all the
money I have on the new powerbook so I don't want to have to buy
another OS too, but want the easiest set-up with the fewest problems.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Carolyn
