Nothing I did to that computer improved performance as much as tossing the 1997 hard drive out and putting in a 2002 hard drive. Along with everything else the hard drive technology has improved radically since 1997 and this new drive is cooler, faster, quieter and uses less power than the old drive. Data retrieval is MUCH faster and since less power is being required of the power supply the fan does not increase in pitch like it used to do.
