Bought a really cheap used modem from eBay, right Model #. It made connection on first attempt after installing at 48,800 bps. BUT dropped connection shortly thereafter. Next time conned at 24,600. Did search on "Google" but when clicked on a found link, dropped connection. Made more attempts to connect and connect speed continued to drop 7200 bps, 4800 bps. Attempted to connect last night and got error message, "Modem is not working properly. Check connections, reset modem, check port."
First question is: Do I assume this modem is "BAD"?
What you've described could be a motherboard problem, modem problem, phone line problem, or ISP problem... So I don't think you should assume anything at this point.
2nd: Is there some other setting or whatever that I should look for and check?
This replacement came about because I got the above error message after a particularly stormy few days here in the Midwest.
What have you done to ensure your phone line is still capable of supporting a V.90 class connection?
Do you have the right modem script selected in the Modem control panel?
What *exactly* is saying the modem is not working properly? Are those the *exact* error messages? If that's Remote Access saying that when you try to dial-out, have you turned on verbose logging and examined the log?
