Hi, Y'all,

Bought a really cheap used modem from eBay, right Model #. It made
connection on first attempt after installing at 48,800 bps. BUT dropped
connection shortly thereafter. Next time conned at 24,600. Did search on

"Google" but when clicked on a found link, dropped connection. Made more

attempts to connect and connect speed continued to drop 7200 bps, 4800
bps. Attempted to connect last night and got error message, "Modem is
not working properly. Check connections, reset modem, check port."

First question is: Do I assume this modem is "BAD"? 2nd: Is there some
other setting or whatever that I should look for and check?

This replacement came about because I got the above error message after
a particularly stormy few days here in the Midwest.

Jim
