So why not change the settings in the Monitors and Sounds? The menu is on the visible screen? Relevant things don't appear on the screen? They are on the phantom screen? "trash the prefs" is good advice from Paul Stamson. But this is too easy really, better to "go blind fishing": open the monitors and sound panel from the file menu if you can and if the control panel is on the phantom screen try to hook it by dragging various spots off screen to on screen ... I have done this successfully, I have also gotten desktop aliases in view by command+a and holding the mouse button down and dragging... Yeah OK, enough of this nonsense, trash the monitors prefs and restart!
