Resending this because the list bounced it as containing HTML... which it cannot, as there is no HTML option in Eudora Light 5.1.1. And I have not reset my settings since my last (successful!) posting just afew minutes ago!
Several times today the 9600/200/G3/OS9.1 has tried connecting spontaneously while I have been typing my e-mails.
Redial is OFF in Remote Access (which has always been set to "connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" withoput this problem occurring, so the setting is not the problem)
Redial ON means that if on the first try the modem can't connect it will either try an alternate phone number or retry the main number some number of times. It however has nothing to do with initiating dialing.
Odds are you have some program that is trying to connect. The following are some that could cause it.
Eudora set to check at intervals.
Date and Time checking a time server.
Personal Web Sharing on.
Timbuktu with TCP/IP Incoming Access enabled.
FileSharing IP option enabled.
One way to find it is to let it connect and then use MacTCP Watcher or IPNetMonitor to list the current connections. Any active services will be listed. It won't say what program is responsible but it will list the port number in use. Try it and post the results here and we can tell you software is likely the cause.
Open Transport & TCP/IP both v2.7.4.
Open Transport set to "Load only when needed".
That's normal. If you uncheck it then Remote access will try to always be connected.
