Well it don't. Do the batteries need to be charged for a while? Or, can they be replaced?
If you let the batteries charge for a 24 hr period and they will not keep the computer running for a short period of time, then I'd say the batteries were dead or the charge circuitry was not functioning. Replacing either 'could' cost as much as a new unit, depending on brand, size of unit and how high end the unit is.
