Is your printer "ON" when this happens ?
My 8600/200 did the same thing with my Epson 600.
Seems to have stopped either with the G3 upgrade or the my newer Epson
Stylus 740.
If so, the fix is to turn it's power off 1st.
Also, try trashing your system prefs.
This means you'll have to reset Apple Talk and a few other control panels
that I  can't remember right now.
(Just got off the roof trying to re-shingle before the rain came. (Didn't
happen.))
