It wouldn't hurt to delete all IE prefs and your System and Finder prefs. You won't actually be able to Empty Trash on System and Finder prefs until you reboot. I was experiencing difficulties of all sorts on a 7500 until I remembered "trash those finder prefs." Voila in my case, at least. I have found all the IE versions to be remarkably stable in OS 9-just upgraded from 5.1.6 to 5.1.7. Good luck.
