MTU changes for dsl

I'm running a beige G3/266, 192 Mb RAM, OS 9.22.  I just got dsl.  I know 
in the windows world there are some registry hacks to change the mtu and 
some other things to boost performance on dsl vs. dialup stack configuration.

1) Are such things even needed on my config?

2) Where would you learn more about altering the tcp stack parms?
