Can't answer all your questions, but I have mine sitting open next to me,
and the top bay is SCSI, as I have had a 1 Gig in it. I am currently running
OS 9.something on it. (I don't have it plugged in at the moment.) You will
need a sled for the drive, but otherwise it will take a 5.25" standard size
drive. There isn't much room for drives internally, 3.5" floppy, hard disk
on the side, CD w/front access hole, and above that a 5.25" drive bay.

I have added a network card and a USB 1.0 card (for whatever that's worth -
I have a camera on it but the machine is really too slow for that), and an
external CD burner.

That may answer a few of your questions.....
