I have swapped the ram. Originally, it had 2  32 meg dimms and started on
the second boot. Today I put in a 128 meg dimm (took out the 32s) and
without extensive testing, it seems to take 3-4 or more presses on
ctrl-apple-power to get the chime to sound.

Battery is likely old.
