I can almost feel your pain Fred. Look, just before laying out a lot of
dough, could you sell your USB burner and look for an older SCSI thing on
ebay or wherever? I have a $5 one running on Toast 3.5 and works fine for
back-ups - sure it is slow (35 min for a really full load), but a perfect
activity to keep the machine out of trouble when I am away from it.
Sometimes it may be better to stay with older functions like SCSI for which
there is built in support on the 7300.
