Will the straight monitor cable DB15-F to DB15-F not do the same thing, as
the adapter, or does it have to be an Apple cable with the adapter thingy?
I saw the type you're talking about on ebay but I thought maybe a regular
monitor cable might work and save me from having to buy an adapter but I
don't want to blow the card or the monitor. I didn't buy the regular retail
box one. I was able to get one open tested for $80 instead of $120. Trying
upgrade on a budget so to speak.
Thanks,
Craig
If the cable is DB 15F (3 row) then you should be able to hook it directly to the card. My 21" is hooked to my card in the same manner. If, however, your monitor cable has the DB15F (2 row, old Mac style) on the card end, you will need to get the adapter. Basically, if it is a PC monitor, you don't need it; if it is an Apple-branded monitor made before the Studio or Cinema Displays (Apple Multiscan 16", etc), then you will need it.
