Hi. I have now gone through three 1710s and all have died the death you
describe. Apple has a tech bulletin on the that describes two solutions
based on whether the light comes on or stays off. I'm sorry that I don't
have the address. A search of their site will turn it up. One fix involves
holding down command-option-A-V as you start up. Apparently, this resets the
monitors circuitry. The other fix involves turning off sleep mode for the
monitor in the energy saver control panel. I have had some success with
these steps, but eventually all of my 1710s went the way of all flesh.
